Dhela Zone, established in December 2014 as the sixth eco-tourism zone, offers a rustic yet immersive experience for nature enthusiasts. Nestled near Dhela village and adjacent to the Jhirna safari zone within Corbett National Park, this zone boasts a quaint Forest Rest House (FRH) dating back to 1926. The FRH provides simple lodging with two double bedrooms, furnished with basic amenities. It's important to note that non-vegetarian food is prohibited within the premises, and visitors are required to bring their own raw ingredients for cooking, as there is no on-site canteen.
For security, the FRH is equipped with solar-powered electric fences. While the accommodations are modest, the zone ensures essential utilities like electricity (sourced from solar panels) and water supply. However, those seeking a luxurious getaway might be better suited to consider accommodations outside the National Park in a resort setting.
Dhela Zone, approximately 20 km away from Ramnagar, allows for night stays from mid-November to mid-June. Although jeep safaris are available year-round, the recommended time to visit is from October to mid-June. The zone teems with diverse flora and fauna, offering opportunities to spot a variety of herbivorous animals, including Tigers, Leopards, Elephants, Deer, Jackals, Wild Boars, Birds, and Reptiles. Animal sightings are subject to chance and luck.
The Dhela Forest Rest House, situated by the Jhirna Zone, provides accommodation in double bed configurations under the FRH (Single Bed) category. The entry gate for the zone is the Dhela Gate, conveniently accessible from Ramnagar. The Dhela Zone's operational hours are split between morning (06:00 AM - 09:30 AM) and evening (01:00 PM - 04:30 PM) sessions.
A highlight of the Dhela Zone is the expansive Laldhang Chaur, a grassland area known for its abundant wildlife presence. Visitors often witness herds of Elephants and Deer, along with Wild Pigs and Neelgai. The Chaur is also a haven for enthusiasts of grassland bird species.
Access to the Dhela Zone, which prohibits private vehicles like other zones within Corbett Tiger Reserve, is via the Dhela Gate. Visitors can book day safaris through the official website using authorized vehicles and accompanied by mandatory guides.
